Ubuntu Laptop killing bug
Hi Friends,
There was some kind of a discussion going on about a bug in power management program which cause the hard disk to do frequent loading and unloading which makes it life shorter and leads it to sudden failures. Read these articles and find out whether ur system is ok.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/59695 //better read this first and jump to the next post in middle
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerManagement // this has a kinda simple solution
http://www.overclockingwiki.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1645 // This contains steps to identify and correct the problem, but better to stick to what they have mentioned in launchapad(IMO)
Gud luck

Re: Ubuntu Laptop killing bug
Thanks kal for pointing this out. I'm also having few problems while shutting down and suspending my laptop. I set the "ENABLE LAPTOP MODE = true" as mentioned in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerManagement. Let's see whether it will work for me.

Hey Yosh,
Seems is better to be false rather than true. This will spin up the hard drive and increase the cycle count. Its better to apply the upgraded version and deal the problem.
